I received this beautiful type specimen from Portugese type designer Mário Felinciano last week. It’s printed on a light off white stock in striking black and red inks, with a brown craft cover. It is now one of the most treasured type specimens in my collection. Morgan (shown above) is my favourite, a modular, quite squarish contemporary sanserif with exquisite detailing (seldom found in geometric typefaces). It is really striking for large sizes but also extremely legible for continuous text. Mário’s typefaces can be found and bought from myfonts.com.
This is what my non-perpetua typeface looks like now. I tamed down the quirkiness somewhat, in an effort to make it a more servicible text type. This is a really rough work in progress at the moment. I’ve lighten the weight a little, increased the contrast between the thicks and thins and made it more ‘conventional’. The ‘o’ doesn’t seem to fit with what I’m doing for the rest of the letters at the moment, but I quite like that form. Is it possible to make it work? I don’t know. I think I’ll keep the last version and see what I could do with it. Arrival Condensed is in progress right now as well and I’ll post some images next week. Do write and let me know what you think. I’ll post these onto Typophile’s critique section soon, but I’m not ready yet. So TypeCon 2003 is coming up (July 17 to 20). It’s going to be in Minneapolis this year and the program looks really interesting. I'll be there. They are calling for submissions for their type gallery. The winning entries will be displayed at the conference and online afterwards. 6/06/2003 02:30:00 AM (0) comments Powered by Blogger
