From typographi.ca: The winning entries of this year’s type design competition of Type Directors Club have been announced. My Reading collegue Victor Gaultney’s Gentium is a winner in the text category. I’m not a bit surprised! Underware’s Sauna, a whimsical take on the well-exploited humanist sans theme (one of my recent favourites, by the way), is a winner in the type system category. As a supporter of local type design, Im pleased to say that amongst the 15 winning entries there is one Canadian design, Laurentian, an obviously Dutch-influenced contemporary serifed text type, designed by Rod McDonald, one of the designers behind the famous Canadian typeface Cartier. John Hudson of Tiro Typeworks in Vancouver was also one of the designers of Arabic Typesetting, but curiously listed as USA.
From the ATypI mailing list: the AtypI is calling for papers for their annual conference in Vancouver, 24-28 September. The theme of this years conference is Between text and reader: an exploration into the activities, influences, theories and obsessions that exist between the creation of text and the reading of text. 100-word summaries of presentations (maximum 40 minutes in length) should be sent to atypi2003@tiro.com or by mail before 30 April 2003. 3/11/2003 02:20:00 PM Powered by Blogger
